Reflecting on a Year at Crux: Our 2025-2026 Intern Cohort

Published: 21/07/26

After 12 months at Crux, six interns have now completed their placements and are preparing to return to university, taking with them experience gained across a variety of client projects and product development programmes.

During their placements, the group developed new technical skills and gained first-hand experience of how multidisciplinary teams collaborate to solve complex challenges.

A Year of Hands-On Experience

Our internship programme is designed to give students meaningful experience early in their careers, with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real projects and develop a broader understanding of working in a product development consultancy.

Across the six placements, the interns contributed to a wide range of activities, including early-stage design, user research, design validation, simulation, physical testing and mechanical design. Alongside developing technical skills, they gained valuable insight into how different disciplines work together to bring products from concept through to delivery.

Hear From This Year’s Interns

George Grice: “I’ve learned so much over the last 12 months that I’ve spent at Crux and this is largely due to the variety of work that I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of! I’ve worked on various projects covering early stage design right the way through to testing of finished consumer products. It’s this variety that is so unique to the work that Crux do and has enabled me to learn so much in such a short space of time!”

Aimee Cantle: “I have really enjoyed my year at Crux and have learned so much during my time here. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, from early-stage user research and workshops through to later-stage design validation. What stands out most at Crux is the focus on end users throughout the entire design process. As an intern here, you are treated as one of the team, and everyone is so supportive!”

Andriy Okolovych: “I feel incredibly grateful to have spent my year at Crux surrounded by such genuine, supportive and inspirational people. Their guidance and support across a wide range of simulation, physical testing and mechanical design activities has helped me develop my technical abilities and significantly grow my confidence as an engineer”

Will Lewis: “My year at Crux has been very varied and rewarding. The work is challenging, but being surrounded by a talented team of industry experts has made it a great opportunity for me to learn about Mechanical Engineering and the medical device sector.”

Dan Fidler: “I’ve played a part in several challenging medical device development projects that have strengthened my technical problem-solving skills and given me valuable insight into the commercial side of engineering. The team at Crux is incredibly talented, and it’s been fantastic to start my career learning from the best!”

Thomas Peaston: “My time at Crux has been fantastic, with loads of opportunities to work with a huge variety of engineering disciplines. I’ve learnt so much about all aspects of engineering, and always felt valued within the project teams I’ve worked alongside!”

Looking Ahead

Thank you to all six interns for the contribution they have made during their placements. Over the past year, they have become valued members of their teams, supporting projects across the business while developing their own skills and experience.

We wish them every success as they continue their studies and build on what they have learned during their year at Crux. We look forward to following the next stages of their careers.
