Share Uganda: Creating Sustainable Healthcare Solutions 

Share Uganda works tirelessly to improve healthcare access in rural Uganda, where many communities face significant barriers to medical care. Their practical, community-driven initiatives create meaningful change in people’s daily lives. 

In 2023, we made our first donation to Share Uganda, supporting their transformative work in rural communities. With this donation, Share Uganda purchased sewing machines for their sanitary pad programme in Kabira, creating both jobs and essential health products for the local community. Inspired by their continued impact, we are supporting them again for 2024. 

Share Uganda’s Current Initiatives

Community Health Development

Share Uganda’s sanitary pad programme in Kabira equips local women with sewing machines and materials to create their own reusable products. The initiative extends beyond immediate health benefits, builds valuable skills within the community, and promotes sustainable solutions. Local nurses from their health centre provide guidance while community members share their knowledge, creating opportunities for learning and development. The programme actively boosts local women’s skills and improves hygiene standards across the community.

Primary Healthcare Services

Their team of Ugandan medical professionals delivers essential primary care services to remote communities. The service ensures that people with potentially life-threatening conditions, particularly malaria, can access medical professionals and medications. The team’s presence has become essential in providing consistent, reliable healthcare support to areas with limited access to medical services.

Making an Impact

Share Uganda aims to expand their malaria prevention project, focusing on distributing mosquito nets – an intervention the World Health Organisation estimates can reduce malaria by up to 70%. The expansion will strengthen their healthcare initiatives and create more comprehensive protection for vulnerable communities.
