STEM Outreach 2025: Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day

As part of our ongoing commitment to inspire the next generation of women in engineering, we were thrilled to welcome students from Ashton Park School back to our headquarters for another immersive and hands-on industry experience, perfectly timed to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June.
Now in its third year, this annual initiative began in 2023 with a simple but powerful goal: to create meaningful opportunities for young women to experience engineering up close and help close the gender gap in STEM. That message remains just as vital today.

This year’s event offered students a packed agenda designed to bring engineering to life. Through collaborative workshops, the students tackled real-world design challenges and showcased their sustainable solutions to a panel of our engineers. Their ideas were innovative, practical, and delivered with confidence, a true reflection of their curiosity and creativity.
One of the day’s standout moments came from our Managing Director, Stephen Gilmore, who shared his own journey into the world of engineering. His advice to the students? Follow your curiosity, even when the path ahead isn’t straightforward.

While the core structure of the programme remained consistent with last year, blending practical workshops, insight from industry professionals, and peer-to-peer presentations, there’s a noticeable momentum building. Interest in the programme is growing, and we’re already exploring ways to expand its impact in the year ahead.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the event possible. Initiatives like this are a key part of how we’re working to create a more inclusive, diverse future for engineering. It’s always a privilege to meet such motivated, talented students, and we can’t wait to see where their passion for STEM takes them next.
