On International Women’s Day, we celebrated with a Presentation Day at Crux HQ, which marked the conclusion of the Crux Outreach Programme with Ashton Park School.

The day showcased weeks of hard work and dedication from the students, who demonstrated their passion for STEM and their potential to become future leaders in engineering.

Engaging Workshops and Impressive Presentations

The Presentation Day was filled with engaging workshops, allowing the girls to develop technical and hands-on skills and giving them a taste of what a career in engineering could offer.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the presentations from each project group, where the students showcased their engineering design solutions. We were thrilled to see the teams exhibiting their skills in concept ideation and sustainability in engineering design.

Congratulations to Our Winning Team

The presentations impressed our panel of judges, who had the challenging task of selecting a winning team. The girls’ passion, creativity, and teamwork shone through in their presentations, and we do not doubt they have bright futures ahead of them in STEM.

Addressing the Gender Gap in STEM

We recognise that there is still a lot of work to be done to address the gender gap in STEM fields. As highlighted in our previous post, women comprise just 16.5% of the engineering workforce in the UK, compared to 47.7% of the overall workforce. This disparity is a loss for individuals who may miss out on fulfilling careers and the engineering industry, which would benefit immensely from diverse perspectives and experiences.

Breaking Down Barriers for Women in Engineering

To further emphasise the importance of supporting girls in STEM, we have included a video that sheds light on the gender biases and barriers women often face when pursuing careers in engineering. From societal influences and lack of representation to confidence gaps and limited opportunities, these obstacles can deter many talented young women from entering and thriving in these fields.

Initiatives like the Outreach Programme aim to break down these barriers by providing girls with encouragement, role models, and hands-on experiences to develop their skills and confidence in pursuing engineering careers.

Building a Brighter Future for Women in STEM

Events like the Outreach Programme demonstrate the incredible potential of young women in STEM and the importance of nurturing their talents. By continuing to support and encourage girls to pursue their interests in engineering, we can help create a future in which gender is no longer a barrier to success in STEM fields.
